- ZD categories to use: Recent Launches > Boosted Projects

- Boosted Project Catalog projects (for clients)
- Boost your Project Catalog project (for freelancers)
- For any questions our resources cannot answer, a lead or SA can see #proj-catalog-boosted-projects for assistance
Freelancers will have the option to promote greater visibility for their Project Catalog projects by boosting them to the front of Project Catalog carousel within freelancer search results to help them stand out more to potential clients.
The Find Work Home page will be where freelancers are prompted to boost their projects.
Note: This is for Project Catalog jobs only. Consultations and Marketplace jobs are not included.
How it works:
- FL enters 3-10 keywords that describes their work (what a CL may search for to find their project)
- FL chooses a budget; 1 click = 3 Connects e.g. if a FL states 18 Connects, that means they’ll stay boosted up to 6 clicks
- Project will stay boosted until budget is hit OR for 30 days max
- If they stop the boost, they’ll be refunded the difference e.g. budget is 18 Connects, but they stop at 3 clicks, they’ll be refunded 9 Connects within 24 hours
Freelancers will see Boosted Projects advertised directly in Find Work. Depending if a freelancer has a project posted, they’ll see different versions of the banner:
They’ll also be able to go to Find Work > My Project Dashboard where they’ll see a lighting bolt icon with a popup modal describing what this is about. They have the option to click the lightning bolt to enter the next page, or they can click the triple dot icon > Boost to do the same.
If they do NOT have any projects yet, they’ll see a banner suggesting they create a project + a “How it works” for the boosted projects:
If they DO projects to boost, they’ll see a list of their projects so they can select which one(s) to boost + a “how it works” section:
When clicking “Boost this project”, they’ll be able to start entering in their criteria and click “Boost now”:
- 3-10 keywords they think matches their project best that they also think clients may search for related to their project type
- A Connects budget; 1 click = 3 Connects
Once submitted, if successfully boosted, they’ll see this screen:
They can monitor which projects are boosted / not + any data associated back on their Boosted Projects page (Find Work > My Project Dashboard > lightning bolt icon within the Projects section). They can see:
- How many impressions they’ve had (the number of times a Boosted Project was shown to clients in search results)
- How many clicks they’ve had (the number of times a client actually clicked on the project)
- If the boost is active vs. finished + all the keywords they added in for their boost
- A “Stop boosting” button if they want to stop a boost early and “Boost again” button if they want to restart a boost that finished
When the client’s searching for freelancers (like in the example below when searching “wordpress”), they’ll see both options for freelancers in the marketplace as well as through Project Catalog. If the freelancer is boosted, they’ll be highlighted to the front of the carousel like below.
Note - there are more FAQs that are FL and CL-facing that can be found directly on the customer-facing help articles:

Agent-facing FAQs:
What happens if the freelancers edits their boosted project? Does it stay boosted?
Yes. The project will continue to be boosted even after any edits are made. Only if their project goes inactive will the boost "pause" until it regains that active status again.
Reactive FAQs:
This is a money grab by Upwork.

Why isn’t the boost feature getting my project more sales?
This feature was designed to get your project extra attention; it doesn’t guarantee successful project contracts or outcomes. Like any business, you may need to try different strategies (like changing key words, price points, or descriptions) to attract the right clients.
Why aren’t you listening to our feedback about boosted offerings?
We’re thankful for the feedback you provide, and are sure to pass it on to the right teams. Our research shows that boosting your proposal can increase your chance of being hired by up to 55%. By adding another way to boost your work, more freelancers can benefit by building their business, and clients see more options for who’s most interested in getting work right now.

Why is the boost feature helpful to my project?
We know it can be hard to get noticed, especially if you’re just starting out on Upwork. If you want more attention on your project, this boost feature can help you:
- Reach more clients: Stand out by boosting your projects to get attention in search results
- Set your own budget: You decide how many Connects to spend
- Analyze and optimize reach: Understand your project’s keyword performance and optimize your strategy by checking your Boost dashboard to know how many views you’re attracting
