Are you an Enterprise customer? If you are enrolled in Compliance Services, please contact your Enterprise Program Success Manager to make contract changes.

On Upwork, only the freelancer can lower a contract’s hourly rate and only the client can raise it.

To raise a rate on an hourly contract

  1. Go to Jobs and locate the contract
  2. Click the (...) options menu and select Increase rate
  3. Enter the new rate and click Save Changes

The new rate will take effect immediately. The existing contract will continue and it will be updated on your work histories to reflect the new rate.

If you want to lower the hourly rate, either ask your freelancer directly to do so or end the contract and rehire your freelancer at a lower rate.
