Direct to Local Bank

Important update: As of September 2023, there are new banking requirements for withdrawals in Pakistan (PKR) and Bangladesh (BDT) currencies that require you to add your "Customer ID Type" and your "Customer ID." Please be sure to remove and re-add your bank details from your Upwork account and update all necessary information so your Upwork payments go to your bank account. Note: Your Customer ID is either your 13-digit ID number or the alphanumeric passport number associated with the Customer ID Type you chose.

We know that managing your earnings is important to you. That’s why we give you options, including Direct to Local Bank. It’s Upwork’s version of direct deposit, and we’ve designed it to be as simple and safe as possible.

Direct to Local Bank allows you to easily move your earnings from Upwork directly to your bank account, in your local currency. In many cases, the Direct to Local Bank method which is $0.99 USD per withdrawal is the fastest and least expensive way to get paid.

Set up Direct to Local Bank withdrawals

We’ve designed this process to be as straightforward as possible To add your bank account:

  1. Go to SettingsGet Paid
  2. Click Add Method
  3. Click the Set Up button for your chosen method
  4. Enter your bank account details, including bank codes
  5. Choose a payment schedule and click Next

Important things to know:

  • For security reasons, your new payment method will become active in three days.
  • Check that the name on your bank account matches your verified name on Upwork. If your payment method was flagged for a name mismatch, please contact support to resolve the issue or add a new payment method.
  • Be sure that you enter your bank information, including bank codes, correctly. We want you to get your money on schedule and any errors could result in a failed transfer or delay. If you've exceeded the character limit on the Name on Account field, please contact your bank to get an appropriate abbreviation.
  • You should also contact your bank if you're not sure you have the correct information, or if you received an error when you tried to enter it into our system.
  • Upwork charges $0.99 per Direct to Local Bank withdrawal. Any additional restrictions, timing regulations, and fees vary depending on your bank.
  • Upwork cannot accommodate company registrations for TRY and PKR bank accounts. Adding a company bank account may result in failed/rejected withdrawals.
How do I edit my payment method?

Editing your payment method is simple:

  1. Go to SettingsGet Paid
  2. Under Payment Methods, find the one you want to edit
  3. Click Edit from the (...) options menu
  4. Edit your information and click Save Changes

Not all account information can be edited. This includes email addresses, bank account numbers, and bank codes. If these change, you must add a new payment method. Don't forget to remove the old payment method at that time, too.
