Hire Rate is calculated based on the job posting of clients that resulted in a successful hire of freelancer(s). E.g. if client posted 10 jobs and hired at least 1 freelancer in each of those 10 jobs, the Hire Rate would be 100% whereas if client only hired at least 1 freelancer to 9 of the 10 job postings, then Hire Rate would be at 90%.
Keep in mind that since the Hire Rate is based on if there is a hire on a job posted, the factors listed below may have a negative effect on the score:
- Duplicate job post
- Closed job post by Upwork CE
- Bugs
When a job is posted on the platform, it's open for 30 days and will expire after that if not active. Activity includes hires, messages, new applications, and editing of the job post.
If a job post is not active, a “warning” message is sent to the client 5 days before the 30 day closing mark. If a client has only messages, they can still get the warning message, but the post won’t close.
If a client reaches out concerned as they are not ready to hire, to extend the job posting an additional 30 days, they can:
- Interview a freelancer
- Accept new applicants to interview
- Update the job posting; simply adding a period or remove one will count as an “edit"
For details on how to edit, close, or update a job post’s visibility, clients can see the Edit or Close a Posted Job
When a client closes their job post, the status of each freelancer candidate (shortlisted, interviewed, declined, messaged) will be saved to allow clients to easily find/hire previous applicants.
Clients can go to View All Job Postings to find the job, click it, and view any past applicants.
In order to protect our users’ privacy and safety online (as well as prevent off-platform work), client names are completely private before freelancers and clients connect in an interview in the Upwork Message Center.
Client names are NOT visible in:
- Proposals (active & archived)
- Invitations to interview
- Archived invitations to interview
- Archived active candidacy
Hourly Rate is public on a client’s job posts as well as on any freelancer’s page they’ve had a contract with. Some clients may request to have this set to “private”.
We do have the ability to hide hourly rates; however, this feature is not commonly known and should not be proactively offered to a client.
If small busines and up client: send a request to a TL to enable
If not: let the CL know this is not an available feature for them. Approved verbiage to assist in these cases: “A rate is displayed both on the client and freelancer side for transparency. Hiding this rate is only available for Enterprise clients.”

Important:
As of June 2023, Featured Job Posts have a limit of 2,500 invites per job post and are no longer advertised as “as many invites as you want”. This is an internal-only limit and this amount should not be shared with customers. The only limits that can be communicated are what we share externally here (30 total for free marketplace postings and 70 per day for featured job post invites).
The job invite limit function is in place to decrease or minimize the number of spam invitations and ensure that our freelancers will receive relevant invitations based on their skills and experience. These limits are shared between the company and their sub-teams.
How it works for the free, marketplace job post invites -
- 30 invites total per job post (externally communicated)
- No more than 70 per day across all job postings within that company (internal only)
They’ll see a counter with how many available invites they have left in each post as well as see the option to upgrade to a Featured Job:
If they don’t have anymore invites and they try to invite more freelancers, they’ll see this popup:
They can see the full count of invites sent out by clicking “View Job Post” and looking towards the bottom here:
How it works for Featured Job post invites -
- 2,500 invites total per Featured Job job post (internal only)
- No more than 70 per day across all job postings within that company (we externally share “70 per day” but do not share it’s across all postings)
They do not see a counter with how many available invites they have left. The HC advertises it as “send more invites” but doesn’t specify how many, outside of the daily limit of 70.
They can see how many invites they’ve sent total by clicking “View Job Post” and looking towards the bottom here:
If a client with a free job posting reaches out asking for more invites -
FIRST - determine if they’re in need for an increase on a specific job posting OR for their account due to posting multiple jobs -
- Sudo into the account to check out their recent job postings to determine if there’s quite a few they’re inviting to vs. a single post. + check out the “Activity on this job” to determine when viewing the post to see how many invites they’ve been. If a chat / call, best to probe for specifics on which job specifically they’re looking to send more invites to in order to help sudo for investigating further
If they’re looking to increase their overall invite count as they have multiple job posts -
Confirm they have spend.
If spend - see a Lead / SA to increase their daily limit.
If no spend - share they’ll have more invites available within 24 hours.
If they’re looking to increase the limit on a specific post -
While we aren’t able to increase the amount of invites for the client on their job posting, we can still help give them some direction and educate in helping to attract freelancers to still apply to their job posting:
- Explain that while they can’t invite more freelancers to apply, as long as their job post is public, freelancers will be able to see their job post and apply
- Check out their job post description / details to see if there’s anything we can recommend they add in explaining the more detailed a job post, the more freelancers it’ll attract - Post a Job has some helpful tips
- Outside of having a great, eye-catching job post, if they still want to invite more freelancers + attract more freelancers to apply, they can upgrade their job post to a Featured Job

While we aren’t able to increase the number of invites you can send, we can share a few other ways to make sure the freelancers with the skills you need see your job post:
- If you have the job post set as private, set it to public. You’ll likely see new candidates submit proposals soon
- Review your job post and make sure the description clearly sums up the job and the skills needed. This way you catch the eye of the freelancers who are a good fit. [[IF A TIP IS BEING PROVIDED: For example, you may want to consider adding: TIP ]] You can see examples of good job posts in this Upwork Help article.
- If you want more invites, consider upgrading to a Featured Job to unlock those and other benefits

While we aren’t able to increase the amount of invites for the client on their job posting, we can still help give them some direction and educate in helping to attract freelancers to still apply to their job posting like we do with free job postings, plus this is a great time to chat about why we have limits in place.

We limit the number of invites you can send with a Featured Job as part of our extensive efforts to combat scams and protect all of our customers. We didn’t make the decision lightly, and we know sometimes clients would like more invites.
We do believe Featured Job posts still have a value even with this limit. This is because standard job posts only allow for 30 invites and don’t include the eye-catching FEATURED JOBS badge, which has become a signal to freelancers that you are serious about hiring. We also share your job in emails to freelancers when you pay to feature it.

Disclaimer - This increases the daily limit of job invites only across job posts (which is set to 70 per day). This does not change the allowance of invites per post (FJP is limited to 2,500 & free marketplace is limited to 30). This should only be utilized if the client has spend.
- Access the account in OBO, in the Own Companies section hover mouse in the Action (wrench icon) and select Other.
- Click the Interviews Quota tab and put in the proper amounts in the Interviews Quota box (100 per request, no more than 3 requests). If any issues arise on the limit, please see a manager in the CS Leadership channel.
- Add proper CSS notes and be specific on the job post the increase is for > Click the Change button for the changes to immediately take effect.

Why do I have to use English when I’m creating a profile, job post, etc. on Upwork?
Thanks for your question. Upwork is a U.S.-based company and we ask that you use English when visiting our site so there is a shared language among users. In some cases, we may allow another language to be used but you must include an English translation too.
