Internal Info Only - In the past, Upwork auto-paused contracts at 30 days of inactivity, but due to complaints from some high-value clients who have intermittent work with FLs and would rather not have to unpause the contract every 30 days, we no longer auto-pause them.

We now simply WARN clients at the 30-day mark of inactivity and suggest that they take action to pause or end contracts to protect themselves.

Email warning sent to clients:

Subject Line: Consider pausing your inactive job.

Email Text:

Hi << first name >>, We noticed there’s been no activity on your job, << job title >>, with << freelancer full name >>, for the past 30 days.

If there’s no plan for additional work in the immediate future, to avoid accidental charges you may want to pause this job.

You can easily do so from your contract room. From there you can also restart the job at any time, as well as end it.
