Some Mac users can get an error message when they try to open and install the Upwork Desktop Application (aka Team App). The error will say that the file "can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer."
Please review the canned response below to adapt and customize as appropriate:
“The Upwork Desktop application is neither signed by Apple developer certificate, nor placed to App Store. The security settings of OS X 10.9 by default do not allow any application to run except applications downloaded from the App Store (or signed by Apple Developer certificate).
To go around this, please do the following:
- Open the system preferences/security pane.
- On the "Allow applications downloaded from" setting, please chose the "Anywhere" radio button. .
Once the setting is changed you will no longer see the "unidentified developer" warning, and will allow your Mac to run the Upwork Desktop App. Please note that you will still be prompted to give permission to open an "unknown application" when you download and open the application.
For CS Reference:
- System preferences/security pane:
- "Allow applications downloaded from" setting view:
- Once the setting is changed there will no longer be a"www.upwork.com" warning and it will allow the Mac to run the Upwork Desktop App. Please note that the user will still be prompted to give permission to open an "unknown application" when they download and open the application.
