When Local Currency is set up, the Upwork statement will still show in USD and the CC statement will show in the user’s local currency. To show the client both amounts, see “View Charges in Sudo” in the map below.
- Once the CC is charged, the local currency amount can be viewed on the payment invoice and payment confirmation email
- The local currency amount charged by Upwork should be the same amount they’ll see on their CC statement
- Any CC verification charges will still be processed in USD; the charge in USD needs to be entered for the card to be verified
- Regardless of the CL’s local currency, FLs are still paid in USD

We frequently hear from clients that they would like to pay for work in their local currency. We are happy to make this possible for customers.
If I don’t want to pay via local currency, what can I do? Where can I set my currency preferences?
You can opt out of paying with local currency by editing your existing credit card on file to change the currency type to US Dollars. Settings > Billing Method > click the edit link.
How are refunds in local currency handled?
Refunds are processed and paid according to the currency in which payment was made. The foreign currency conversion rate available at the time the refund is being processed will be used to determine the final value amount of the refund up to 100% of the original payment amount. If for any reason the currency conversion rate is unavailable at the time of refund, the refund will be processed and deposited into your Upwork account in US dollars.

What is the conversion rate and markup rate that Upwork use?
Upwork displays foreign currency conversion rates available to you at the time of payment. These rates adjust regularly, sometimes a few times a day based on market conditions. Please note that the wholesale currency conversion rates at which we obtain foreign currency will usually be different than the foreign currency conversion rates offered on the Site.
