EE agents handle all income/ employment verification requests for Marketplace and Enterprise freelancers and will forward requests to TIP, HR, and/or Legal when necessary.

Requests typically come from: Internal parties, essentially anything ending in @upwork.com would mean internal: 

 

Guidelines for Signing an Employment Verification Form:

  1. Review the form sent by the requestor 

a. Employment Verification requests require a written request signed by the FL authorizing       release of the information.

b. Only send 3rd parties our forms. Do not complete documents sent by them as they ask         about employment and marketplace FLs are not employees of Upwork

c. Confirm Marketplace Freelancer & Special Cases to confirm this is a Marketplace                   Freelancer before continuing. 

Confirm Marketplace Freelancer:

a. HR handles anything with @upwork.com as part of the FL email address. In            this case, do the following:

i. Email requester stating we have forwarded their request to the proper department, close ticket as “solved” while adding an internal note that you forwarded this to HR

ii. Send an email (through gmail) to hr@upwork.com with all info given

 

b. TIP handles anything with “Upwork” / “Upwork Payroll” / “ETG” under OBO > Contractor > Assignments, under the “Hired by” column. In this case, do the following:

i. Email requester stating we have forwarded their request to the proper department, close ticket as “solved” while adding an internal note that you forwarded this to TIP

     1. Send an email (through your agent gmail) to                                                     talentinnovation@upwork.com with all info given.

c. Legal handles anything with “Department of Labor” or “Department of Jobs” / “Employment” division, department, or commission / EEOC or Fair Employment agencies, or Commission on Human Rights or against discrimination, or “Social Security” office / anything mentioning “Unemployment”. In these cases, do the following:

i. Email requester stating we have forwarded their request to the proper department, close ticket as “solved” while adding an internal note that you forwarded this to Legal

ii. Send an email (through gmail) to legal@upwork.com with all info given

2. Special Cases

a. Federal Inquires

i. For requests from the federal government, you are not able to send the form letter as they only accept their form back.  For federal inquiries, you can complete the form using the sample language in this exemplar: Federal Investigative Request for Employment Data and Supervisor Information

ii. Competitors: Don’t feel obligated to respond to competitors’ requests, e.g., Freelancer.com, Outsourcely.

3. Ask Legal (aurorakaiser@upwork.com with any questions on any letter or form

 

Completing an Employment Verification Form

1. If you can Identify the Freelancer 

a. Open : Upwork Verification - FL known 

2. If you can not identify the Freelancer

a. Open: Upwork Verification - FL ID Unknown  

3. Click File

a. Make Copy

        i. Titled the name of the Freelancer

b. Make any necessary changes in the copy 

c. Save as a PDF. 

d. Add PDf file to the ticket and send to the requester as solved.
