From time to time a client will request documentation of their spend and hire history on Upwork. Upwork does not provide a report for clients to access via their account. If a client requests spend/hire history information, follow the below process.
How to create the Certificate of Earnings document:
- Make a copy of the Certificate of Spend Report
- The title will be the user’s First/Last name / userID
Locating the client’s earnings:
1. Using the client’s accounting entity in OBO, pull their spend by desired date
a. pick option “Statement Period by Date”
2. Copy all data to a blank spreadsheet
3. Highlight all of column “Type” (usually column D).
4. Click “Create a filter”.
5. Click the three lines next to “Type”
6. If the client wants to see the $ amount of what was charged to their credit card
a. filter by payment method
b. Once these are filtered out, highlight all of column “Amount” (usually column I) and you will see the sum in the bottom right.
7. If the client is requesting the total amount they spent on Upwork jobs
a. filter by the payment types (hourly, fixed price, bonus, misc, expense, salary)
Completing the document:
Once all information has been gathered
1. Enter the user information
2. Enter the transaction information
a. Clients may request the information in months or years depending on their specific requirements. Adjust the table at the bottom of the document to accommodate the user’s request. (Or delete it if it is only a one year spend or a total spend)
3. Download as PDF document
a. Save the PDF and send to the client via the original ticket.
